Description:
THE PURPOSE OF THIS COURSE IS TO DEVELOP AND ENHANCE WRITING SKILLS, INCLUDING COMPOSING, EDITING, AND PROOFREADING. STUDENTS WILL COMPLETE READINGS, AND PREWRITING, DRAFTING, AND EDITING ASSIGNMENTS TO ENHANCE ESSAYS AND OTHER TEXTS. THE COURSE FOCUSES ON READING, PLANNING TO WRITE, DRAFTING, AND EDITING, INCLUDING GRAMMAR, USAGE, PUNCTUATION, AND CONSTRUCTION OF CLEAR STATEMENTS.
Course Objectives:
- How to present ideas logically and organize writing into effective introductions, conclusions, and body paragraphs.
- How to arrange individual sentences effectively within paragraphs, and how to create smooth transitions between ideas and paragraphs.
- How to use a variety of sentence structures effectively and adjust word choice for several audiences while using quotations and paraphrases effectively.
- How to document sources properly and avoid plagiarism.
- How to revise writing by working through various drafts proofreading one’s own work.
